Moved here after having been at a disastrous hostel not too far away
Found The Jack to be a nice clean (every room and common area gets a good seeing to by the cleaning team), friendly (promo team, receptionists and security were all very welcoming and helpful) and well priced hostel (with an evening meal included).

Only issue for some could be that it is located above a pub so there is live music playing on the weekends but if you're put off by this then maybe you shouldn't stay in hostels...?

Would definitely stay here again if I'm in Cairns!

I came up from Melbourne to do my farm work around the Cairns area and didn't know anybody. By chance, I booked into the Jack for a week (and adamant that I would leave after) and was put in the side above reception as i wanted an ensuite room.

These rooms were clean and tidy with one bathroom between 4. I decided to go for an all girls room as it had been a while since I had been in a hostel, and by chance, was only sharing with one other girl. She realised I didn't know anyone and invited me down to dinner with her and her friends (free dinner between 6 and 8- great for a free dinner!). Turns out she had been at the Jack for a month or so and all her friends gave off a real family vibe. Although I was only planning on staying a week, all people who had been there for a little while, really took me under their wing and made me feel at home and comfortable. They invited me to cook with them (great cooking facilities) and out for a couple of drinks.

At the end of my week, I decided I had such a good time with everyone (and a laugh with the bar and reception staff) I had met there, I got a job and extended my stay week by week for 3 and a half months.

I made some great friends at the Jack, and ended up finding two other girls who wanted to do their farm work to (couldn't think of doing anything worse than farm work alone in the middle of nowhere) and even now, months later, i keep in great touch with the Jack family. Even if you are just here for a couple of nights, there's a real community feel about the place, and I certainly found it hard to leave.

Loved the jack, stayed here for 2 months and had a great time. The byo and bar mix is perfect for everyone and gives you a great place to meet people. The atmosphere is amazing and even local parties in the bar really add to it. The free dinner was very welcome and the location is great. This hostel has the hardest working cleaning team ive seen in any hostel and you can really tell all that they do. Overall great place i will definitely be returning

The Jack Backpackers hotel is a great hostel where you will get great rooms for great price. It's big, clean and had everything you need. Located in the center of Cairns you are walking distance from the the lagoon, shopping and food.
The hostel is know for being a "party hostel" because it has a bar linked to it. But! Me and my friend spent 5 days here and we never had a problem with to much noise. We went to bed around 10/11 everyday and up early. Our fellow backpackers who stayed with us respected the 10pm noise curfew and we sleep good^^
The reception will help you book cheap and great thing to do in Cairns, like diving, snorkeling, bundyjump, boat trips and much much more.
We also went to Botanic gardens, which is only 10 min away by bus. Was really good:)

I recommend this to people who want to have a good time, get good rooms and location for a good price and (!) it's free dinner every night between 6-8pm. And it's good food:D

Its well located, near the centre and just a 5 min walk from the Greyhound bus stop and the harbour where the boats sail to do the reef tours. We enjoyed the fact that there was a free meal for dinner every night (excellent food, by the way!) and the room was spacious, comfortable and clean.
